Tour Ronde, Gervasutti Couloir

A few photos from a fun day out skiing the Tour Ronde’s Gervasutti Couloir with Sleigh and Joel.

DSC01272 - line

The Gervasutti Couloir comes down the west side of the Tour Ronde. It’s about 300m long and goes at an average angle of 48 degrees. Conditions weren’t perfect, with the bottom and upper sections a bit bare and firm, but some good turns in the middle more than made up for this.

Unfortunately we weren’t the only people planning to ski the line. Still, with a bit of common sense everyone managed to avoid getting too tangled up.

45The views from the top of the Tour Ronde are some of the best in the range. You get a great perspective on Mont Blanc’s south side, which features some of the most wild and intimidating ski lines in the massif.6

    • Was a great day out. We didn’t actually go direct to the summit, but stopped at the top of the couloir. It’s about another 10/15 minutes of snow and easy scrambling to the summit, but we’d all been up it before so didn’t really think to head to the very top (you can’t ski from the summit). We didn’t time how long it took to get to the top of the couloir, but I’d guess about 45 minutes or so. There was a bootpack which made things easy going, but our fitness was definitely lacking this early in the season!
